BOOK ONE

Tales were told of a time when the peoples of the earth rose against the darkness that threatened their very existence.  Though, through terrifying hardship and much loss, the evil that had begun to swell was defeated, and for many hundreds of years, a relative peace lay upon the land.  Alas, the tale did not end there.

Slowly, quietly, as a wound begins to fester, evil awakens and grows, unseeingly seeping forth from the dark places of the earth and emerging as serpents in unexpected places, waiting to strike.

Still, as one door closes, another may open.

A girl, not a child but not yet a woman, sat alone on a white-sanded beach in a new land.  Her father had been murdered by the foul kakos, and her mother, along with the rest of her people, had fallen victim to the fury of a relentless storm.  Why she had not been taken with the others could not be explained, and she was unaware that the sacred stone with which she had been entrusted held the secret to her salvation and to that of all the fair peoples of the world.
